UPSC Personality Test Preps Begin Online

Amidst a global pandemic, everything seems too slow and too vague. It feels like everything at the moment is on pause and at the same time moving on fast forward. With more than half of the year being gone and anxiety kicking in as every day passes by, students are on their edge to get some clarity. Yet, there has been a consensus that exams can and should be conducted online. Is this something we can adjust to? With the way EdTech is in India, this would be a tough debate to have. 

Here in Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), the Residential Coaching Academy (RCA) is conducting virtual mock interviews for UPSC aspirants, who couldn’t appear for their Personality test due to COVID-19, as per the press release on 11 July, 2020.

The initiative taken by RCA to train their UPSC aspirants is remarkable. They are providing valuable tips and advice to the civil service aspirants to help them face the UPCS’s board with utmost confidence. They are providing free Mock Interview Sessions to aspirants who have their UPSC Civil Services 2019 Personality Tests which are now scheduled between 20 July-29 July 2020.

When was the UPSC 2019 personality test initially scheduled for?

UPSC personality test was supposed to be conducted from February17 to April3, 2020, for their 2019 examination.

There are a total of 60 students of RCA, who qualified the UPSC main exam-2019 and had to sit for the interview. Amongst these 60 students, 48 of them already appeared for their personality test/interview, that was conducted by the commission.

Remaining 12, who couldn’t appear for their personality test/interview due to COVID-19 can appear for the same between the 20th to 29th July, 2020.

24 students of RCM,JMI have qualified for Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission(UPPSC) interview which was scheduled to be conducted on the 15th July, 2020.

14 students of RCM,JMI were selected in J&K PSC exams recently.

Who all are included in the Mock Interview Panel?

The panellist include Prominent civil servants and academicians, who actively participate as panel members to prepare students on various national and international issues during the virtual mock interviews and guild them at every step. They grind them till they feel that the students are ready to face the ground reality.

The Mock Interview panel includes Civil servants from various services like Mr. Indraveer Yadav IAS, Mr. Mahesh Misra IPS, Mr. S.S. Khan IRS, Mr. Javeed Ahmad IPS, Mr. Khursheed Ganai IAS, Mr. Vivek Katju IFS and Prof. U.M. Ameen.

Prof. Najma Akhtar, Vice-Chancellor, JMI is personally monitoring the mock interviews.

What is the eligibility required for THE FREE UPSC COACHING FACILITY at Jamia Millia Islamia?

Jamia Millia Islamia which have an outstanding record of having one of the highest clearing percentage of students cracking both the Main exams and the personality test, also provide free coaching and residential facilities to the students who cut off the eligibility requirement i.e. SC, ST, Women, and Minorities for UPSC Civil Services and other competitive examinations. This free coaching facility for UPSC (IAS) exam preparation offered by Jamia Milia Islamia, RCA is inclusive of the preparatory classes including both UPSC Civil Services Prelims and Mains examination as well as the optional subject.

Free accommodation facility is also provided for the students.

The selected candidates along with their free preparatory program which include the mock personality interview can make the best use of the Hostel/Library/Academic facilities till September 2020. All facilities mentioned above is based on first cum first basis, so all candidates need to apply by sending in their detailed form along with all the necessary documents as soon as the admission registration begins, either through online mode or offline mode.

Before the mock trials start, there would be:

• A One week Orientation Programme will be scheduled in the first week, which would include discussion on DAF, special lectures-cum- question answer session on Economy, Agriculture, Environment, legal Issues, IR, Social Issues etc.

•Mock Interview Panel will comprise of Senior Civil Servants and Academicians.

What after cracking the UPSC examinations and the personality test ?

The common myth that only prestigious post of IAS, IPS etc. comes under the course needs to be addressed. After clearing all the rounds under UPSC one can apply on a broader scope, namely; Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, Indian Police Service, Indian P & T Accounts & Finance Service, Group ‘A’, Indian Audit and Accounts Service, Group ‘A’, Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Central Excise),Group ‘A’, Indian Defence Accounts Service, Group ‘A’, Indian Revenue Service (I.T.), Group ‘A’, Indian Ordnance Factories Service, Group ‘A’ (Assistant Works Manager, Administration), Indian Postal Service, Group ‘A’, Indian Civil Accounts Service, Group ‘A’, Indian Railway Traffic Service, Group ‘A’, Post of Assistant Security Commissioner in Railway Protection Force, Group ‘A’, Indian Defence Estates Service, Group ‘A’, Indian Information Service (Junior Grade), Group ‘A’, Indian Trade Service, Group ‘A’ (Gr. III), Indian Corporate Law Service, Group “A”, Armed Forces Headquarters Civil Service, Group ‘B’ (Section Officer’s Grade) and many more.

The scope of the examination is quite large, UPSC also conducts exam in the field of;

-Indian Engineering Service (IES),

-National Defence Academy (NDA),

-Indian Forest Service (IFS),

-Indian Economic Service (IES),

-Combined Medical Services (CMS),

-Combined Defence Services (CDS),

-Special Class Railway Apprentice (SCRA)

Why does personality test hold such an importance?

With great power come great responsibilities. All the above mentioned posts hold a lot of power. Be it when it comes to being called as the law makers or the law enforcers. They are held highly accountable for their actions. Here comes to why personality test is important?

These individuals are associated to very dignified posts and should know how to execute their power, how to get work addressed, how to talk to other executives and how to be accountable for their work and at the same time hold others accountable. When you work at such levels and holding so much power, one needs to also learn how to use them, and this is exactly what the personality test conveys and teaches.

Even with COVID-19 at its peak, The Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI), Residential Coaching Academy(RCA) are providing ways to make sure students are getting all the facilities that they had signed up for. Even the pandemic doesn’t look like a road block as JMI start their mock trials virtually helping the UPSC aspirants crack the interview and personal test with perfection. This pandemic has not only blurred individual foresight but also blocked one’s mind set and fills it with anxiety.
