The AIIMS director said schools are places where people thrive through a variety of activities. School closures have affected students, particularly those left behind in societies who cannot afford to offer online classes
AIIMS Director Randeep Guleria said on Sunday that providing children with the COVID-19 vaccine would allow schools to reopen and children to resume their outdoor activities. Phase 2 and 3 data from Barrat Biotech’s covaxine trial between ages 2 and 18 is expected in September. Grelia added that the vaccine could be available for children in India around this time after approval from drug regulatory authorities. Speaking to the PTI news agency, Guleria also said that if the Pfizer vaccine was previously approved, it could be an option for children.
Meanwhile, large pharmaceutical company Zydus Cadila may soon apply to the Indian Drug Administration for emergency use authorization for the COVID 19 vaccine ZyCoVD, which claims it can be injected into both adults and to children. “Therefore, if the Zydus vaccine is approved, that will be another option,” said Dr Guleria.
The director of AIIMS acknowledged that most children have a mild infection with COVID 19 and some havenosymptoms but maycarry the virus. Dr Grelia pointed out that the COVID 19 pandemic has resulted in a significant loss of research over the past year. “Schools need to be reopened and vaccination can play an important role.
Recently, the government claimed that COVID 19 had not affected children much so far, however,it warned thatchanges in virus behavior and epidemiological dynamics could increase. It is said that they are preparing to face such a situation. A national team of expertsis formed to demonstrate that they are prepared, investigate childhood COVID19 cases, tackle the pandemic in new ways, and streng then national preparedness. .
Regarding childhood immunization, Dr. VK Paul, member of NITI Aayog (health) recently said:“The group of children is not small. 1. billion.A populationof rupees would require a dosageof about 252.6 billion rupees.”
He also shared that the vaccine for Zydus Cadila and the Bharat Biotechnology cohort is being tested on children. ” So when Zydus gets the license right away, it’s possible. Thereis enough data to makean opinion if a vaccine can be given tochildren,” Paul said.
Meanwhile, India has reported 30,093 new cases of Covid in the last 2 hours. This is the lowest level in 125 days. Overall, since the outbreak in January last year, the country has recorded about 312 million rupees and more than 400,000 deaths. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with all party leaders in both chambers to provide updates on the trajectory of COVID 19 in India and the public health response to the pandemic. The Prime Minister thanked the leaders for attending the meeting and providing very practical ideas and suggestions and said that the contributions from the different regions of the country would be very helpful in planning the policy.
