In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, NSUI has written to the vice-chancellor of Delhi University, requesting that final year exams be cancelled

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Congress’ student wing has written to the vice-chancellor of Delhi University, requesting that final year exams be cancelled. In a letter to acting vice-chancellor PC Joshi, National Students Union of India (NSUI) National Secretary Lokesh Chugh claimed that final year exams cannot be held because the country is facing a double disaster. “India is in a double crisis situation: on the one hand, the world is already battling a pandemic, and in the midst of that, we are now fighting a new epedemic called Black Fungus.

Mr Lokesh said, “The situation is worsening and is out of the government’s reach. In such circumstances, it is not at all acceptable to put additional pressure on students regarding the test.” The Delhi University announced on May 21 that exams for final year, end semester college students would begin on June 7. The examinations are set to begin on May 15th. However, due to an increase in COVID-19 cases in the nation’s capital, the exams have been postponed until June 1. In an official order issued on Thursday, the college confirmed that the new date sheet would be released as soon as possible.

Mr Lokesh Chugh said, “According to numbers, there isn’t a single home in the world that isn’t affected by this pandemic, except for the Ambani’s Adani’s and Modi Ji’s.” Every family is fighting a losing battle against this fatal disease. If there is some warning for final year exams, it would be completely unjustified to the student community.” In a letter to the vice-chancellor and the federal government, NSUI requested that the final year examination be cancelled. “If not, NSUI will be forced to take to the streets to demonstrate on behalf of the student community,” the letter reads. In light of the current Covid-19 situation across the world, Delhi University has decided to postpone the undergraduate and postgraduate end semester exams for final year students. Exams for UG and PG courses are now scheduled to begin on June 7. The exams were originally set to begin on May 15, but were postponed until June 1 due to the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. Because of the Covid-19 scenario, the exams have been postponed for a week. The comprehensive date sheet for the DU exams for final year students will be available soon on the varsity’s official website. Because of the Covid-19, the exams will be held online in an open-book format this semester.

Over the subject, the Delhi University Teachers‘ Association wrote to acting vice-chancellor Professor PC Joshi. “The university must be responsive to the situation that students and teachers are in right now — no one is in a position to write or administer exams,” they said. Students who intend to take the final year semester exams this year should be aware that the comprehensive date sheet will be available on Delhi University’s official examination site, exam.du.ac.in.
